HDR Crash Course

By now, if you haven’t yet heard of HDR, or High Dynamic Resolution, you probably have at least run across images that seem like they couldn’t have been taken with a normal camera. It’s a process that has opened up huge artistic possibilities in the realm of digital photography and really has me excited.
This is a recent logo project we completed. It was fun to dive into a new identity, and explore various styles. It was also great to tackle this as a studio, with several designers throwing in. Collaboration rules.
Got another project back from Oxford University Press. This is a Jason Gabbert original. Here’s what he had to say about it on his blog (which, if you haven’t visited, is a great insight to the cover design process):
Since media is the target of her book, I think it fitting that the cover uses a visual form of media, but also is somewhat vague. A TV test screen is perfect for showing both media, as well as in portraying the idea that a test is being conduct by the author.
Here’s a link to Jason’s Blog.
I just press checked our new business cards yesterday. I took a few photos. Man I love the smell of ink. Double hits of the red and green on these. Printed at Premier Press in Portland. —Charles
Mars Hill Illustration
Charles Brock recently did an illustration for Rob Bell’s Mars Hill Church. The image is a reference to the Biblical story of Jonah (you know, the guy who got eaten by a whale) and the season of Lent. Charles also did an illustration for them last year, which you can view after the jump. View the full illustration here.
Check it live on the Mars Hill Site (for a limited time only!).
We made blood in the studio yesterday. I can’t tell you why. All I can tell you is that it tasted a lot like Corn Syrup, Cocoa Powder, and red/blue food dye. Mmmmm boy….
We just got another project back in the mail; the nice folks at Algonquin were nice enough to send us a few copies of each of the books we’d designed for them last season. It was a really nice surprise!
The Girl Who Fell From the Sky was designed and illustrated by the very talented Connie Gabbert. You can see more pictures on our Flickr Stream.
Our design for Corked has hit stores. I think we started on it well over a year ago, so it’s nice to finally hold a copy in my hands. Connie Gabbert did a wonderful job on the title typography—she actually painted it with wine!
This was a design we concepted for a Jones Soda coffee-table book. If you don’t know, Jones Soda is a smallish-time crafter of unique sodas, with flavors like Fufu Berry, Strawberry Lime, and Blue Bubble Gum. Their labels feature images sent in by people all over the country. Our idea with this book was a way to display the most unique and memorable labels in a comprehensive book.
The lovely packaging was designed by Jeff Miller. You can see more pictures at Faceout Creative.
