During this lovely change of seasons to warmer weather, blossoming flowers, and chirping birds, the grass is not always greener… Its also a time of allergies, new viruses, and monoface! If you’re feeling blue while at your work space, or sick at home next to your laptop and a cup of hot tea, try this website out instead of looking at your miserable mug in the mirror. It might just cheer you up!

Lunches around the studio can get pretty crazy, especially when several people come armed with an iPhone Lightsaber App. It all seemed relatively under control until Darth Tim grabbed the Dark Monkey Head, and rained pure rage upon all the combatants.

Please forgive the quality…it was recorded off an iPhone. What else?

Where can you buy a vintage camera, imported Italian suede, and Buckyballs? Well, Amazon, for one. But Amazon has no style. As discerning designers, shouldn’t we have a prettier way to shop?
Svpply is an online shop for people who like cool stuff. Everything from clothes, to electronics, to unique accessories. The nice thing is that all the merchandise is curated from other online sources, so all the items are uniquely cool. You’ll feel like an avante garde Swiss expatriate in no time.
Svpply is yet another brilliantly executed idea by Ben Pieratt at General Projects. They have a nice blog too.

Who knew there was a whole community of artists creating illustrations for their favorite books…just for fun? I should have known about this earlier, as all of them seem to be fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and The Hobbit, which let’s me know we could all totally hang out at my mom’s house.
Please enjoy Picture Book Report.

Local Art Thingies

These sculptures were spotted right outside our studio. Scared the living daylights out of me and my iced white mocha…probably because of my recurring dream where I’m attacked by monstrous cowboy robots made from mailboxes and old welding masks. More after the jump.

Oppidan Series : Brandon Hill

Brandon Hill (along with Arthur Cherry and JR Caines) have been constant friends of the crew at Faceout Studio. We’ve watched each other tackle new projects, improve our individual hobbies, and embrace new ways to waste time. Having this kind of interaction with other talented designers is a constant source of inspiration and encouragement.

Brandon has been working on his photography (after hours??) for the last couple of years, and has now officially broken the “WOW” barrier. His recent Oppidan Series was a new high (in my opinion) so I had to ask him about it:

Gail McGowan (David Drummond’s talented wife) creates excellent little wire sculptures. Drummond says:

This is a recent one she did. There are a bunch of others she is in the process of photographing.

Check out all of them on her blog, Wired Gail.

Lindsey Brunsman is yet another person that makes me feel inadequate as an artist. Apparently she ‘doodled’ this during lunch. What have I ever doodled during lunch, besides ketchup stains and spilled Mt. Dew? *sigh*

Yet another pop-culture/Kindle matchup. Kindle loses. In case you’re wondering, here’s what we think (*wink).
